Eldred's Farm is in Ancona, near Mansfield in North-Eastern Victoria.
In the late 1800s, Ancona was a flourishing gold mining area with a population of almost 3,000 people. Ancona had a hotel, guest house and bakery in the late 1800s to early 1900s, which were located opposite Eldred's Farm.
Some parts of these buildings still remain.
In 1930, bushfires destroyed most of the town. The Ancona Guest House was not rebuilt. The house on our property was rebuilt by the son of one of the local Chinese gold miners. This house was used as a temporary guest house and the room numbers are still on the four bedroom doors.

The property sits on around 100 acres including 30 acres of pine plantation over the top of the ridge at the top of the property, and has a history of grazing cattle, sheep and horses.
In 2012, we plan to see it launched as a Dorper Sheep Farm. We will graze and grow Dorper Sheep for meat production.
We also plan to have bed and breakfast accommodation with miner shacks/cabins overlooking the Ancona valley.
